A few of my favorite things

Hi there and happy Feel-Good Monday!

This is where we share our favorite tips, tricks, secrets, and ways to “think like a healthy person” so that you can find your own delicious path to healthy living.

“Feel-Good Mondays” are meant to help us get back into that place of feeling energized, nourished, and ready to take inspired action for the week ahead.

Today I felt inspired to share a couple of things that have been delighting me lately! (Fun way to kick off a Monday, right?)

It’s the simple things in life that can often bring the most pleasure. And these foods, which I’ve encountered in my travels around town lately, have brought a huge smile to my face – and belly – each time.

They score high on the health charts, they taste fantastic, and each one brings its own sense of fun, novelty, and – hopefully – staying power, too.

Here’s me and my beloved at Little Beet Table restaurant in NYC last month, before attending a Fleetwood Mac concert! Great night all around.

Here I am at Williamsburg’s Matcha Bar, sipping on a hemp milk matcha latte (the barista told me the nutty hemp flavor works well with matcha’s grassy flavor, and he was right on).

Let me know if you’ve tried these guys and what you think of them!

1) A kalette! OK, wow. Call me a sucker for any veggie,
but when it comes in the cutest shape ever AND it’s off-the-charts good for you?!? I’m swooning over these baby kalettes, which I tried for the first time last month. Have you heard of these guys? They’re a “new veggie” that’s a cross between a kale and a Brussels sprout. So they’re teeny and leafy and just plain adorable.  And yeah, they’re really good for you as they’re filled with the same great stuff kale and Brussels have to share. These are cruciferous veggie magic, and I encourage you to get your hands on them however you can.

2) Matcha Lattes:  The trendy AND healthy beverage of choice! I’ve written about my love for matcha lattes before. Matcha is a green tea powder that’s an antioxidant power house, and I use it in place of coffee in the mornings to get my day going.

But until recently, it was just something us “weirdos” made at home and it wasn’t readily available on the outside. That is, until very recently. Suddenly, matcha lattes are the drink of choice in lots of local Brooklyn and Manhattan cafes, and I’m loving it. It’s great to see a healthy beverage get so much traction. And you’ll be super trendy drinking one 😉

3) Coconut chips.  Man, let me tell you. I miss chips. I am a salty/crunchy kind of gal, and while I certainly ate my fair share of tortilla chips in Mexico last week, I usually try to avoid making a regular diet of anything fried and crispy.

So you can imagine my delight when I found these guys! Blue Monkey and Dang (yes, that’s a real company name) make “coconut chips” that are simply toasted coconut and sea salt! Blue Monkey has a little coconut nectar added, but not that much. (If you get the Dang chips, be sure to chose the version that is ONLY coconut and sea salt, as they have other sweetened versions).

Coconut contains healthy fats and oils that actually help boost energy, keep us satiated, and maintain a healthy weight. The coconut chips are crunchy and a little salty, and satisfy on a deep level. When you’ve got the crunchies, try these out and let me know what you think.
