Today we’re talking about my favorite hot morning beverage. I make this stuff pretty much every weekday, all year long: We’re talking about my Matcha Latte!
This very green “latte” is super good for you, and it has a wonderfully (surprisingly!) creamy flavor and texture that really rivals any milky drink.
Yet the simple ingredients may fool you: It’s just matcha green tea powder blended with a little coconut oil and a touch of raw honey!
Say whaaa?? YES – I said coconut oil!! It wasn’t a typo. And yes, through the magic of emulsification in the blender, these ingredients transform into an ultra-creamy, ultra-delicious beverage treat.
Recipe: Take 1 teaspoon of matcha tea powder (matcha is an ultra antioxidant-rich green tea powder that is blow-your-socks-off good for you) and blend it with hot water (almost boiling), 2 teaspoons of coconut oil, and 1 tsp of raw honey.
For the uninitiated, coconut oil is an incredibly healthy oil that has antiviral and antibacterial properties, and its medium chain triglycerides help boost energy and increase fat burning. Oh yeah — talk about a powerhouse oil!
When you blend the tea powder with the raw honey and coconut oil for a minute or so in a blender, it becomes surprisingly rich, creamy, and frothy. A great “latte” to kick off your day in a much healthier way than the usual suspects!
Your local health food or specialty store should carry matcha powder. If not, you can easily find it online. I recommend going organic (DoMatcha and Dr Mercola are two brands I really like).
