My Favorite Halloween Candy

Hello and happy
Feel-Good Monday!

This is where we share our favorite tips, tricks, secrets, and ways to "think like a healthy person" so that you can find your own delicious path to healthy living.

"Feel-Good Mondays" are meant to help us get back into that place of feeling energized, nourished, and ready to take inspired action for the week ahead.

While Halloween won’t look the same for many of us this year, you still may find yourself with a handful (or bowl) of Halloween candy nonetheless!

Thankfully, there is healthier candy available now than in the days of yore. I know there were some health-nut families that existed back in the 80’s, but I certainly didn’t live in one of those households!

My family used to go ALL OUT with the candy at Halloween. We filled a giant metal bowl with our favorite stuff: mini Butterfingers, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Snickers, and M&M’s. Some of it went to the few neighbors that actually trick-or-treated at our door on our rural, forested street. Most of it went into our bellies.

I cringe when I think back to just how much candy I wolfed down each Halloween as a kid (and in the days before, and in the days and weeks after).

Luckily, these days, there is healthier candy available (that’s still totally delicious – I SWEAR!). You might not be able to control every piece of candy that you or your little one gets their hands on, but you can definitely make healthier choices with what you keep in your home.

One year, instead of giving out traditional candy, we handed out mini bags of Lesser Evil’s delicious, organic popcorn. Rye loves this stuff, and it’s a nice break from all of the sugary treats that often find their way into trick-or-treat bags.

Want candy? Here is a round-up of my favorite treats to help you navigate a healthier Halloween! I promise these won’t disappoint the kids (or grownups) in your house!

UnReal Chocolate DELICIOUS and healthier peanut butter cups, chocolate-candy-covered peanuts, and chocolate coconut bars with a lot less sugar (and cleaner ingredients) than the usual competition.

MadeGood Mini Granola Bars I often pack one of these as a treat for Rye when we’re on-the-go, and I was delighted to see they’re making mini versions of the bigger granola bars for Halloween! There’s even a little bit of veggies hidden in these bars (shhhhh!!!!), and kids LOVE them.

YumEarth These guys make healthier candy corn, lollipops, gummy bears, and fruit snacks that taste great (without as much sugar and fillers as the usual suspects). This is what we’ll be giving out at my door this year.

Smart Sweets Gummy bears, sour gummies, and Swedish fish with only 3 grams of sugar per bag?! This company is a gummy-lovers’ dream come true! These treats are sweetened only with stevia, making them much lower in sugar and much gentler on blood sugar levels.

Wishing you a happy, healthy, and spooooooky Halloween!

With love,
